Congratulations to Viridor for securing a 25 year deal which will see more of local authority waste diverted from landfill.
The deal, in partnership with five local authorities - the first in Scotland - will see around 190 000 tonnes of residual waste processed annually.
Beginning on 1st December 2019 the waste will be taken to a new £22m plant in Bargeddie, North Lanarkshire, where all possible recyclable material will be extracted. The remaining refuse will then be transported to Viridor's £177m energy recovery facility at Dunbar, East Lothian. This announcement marks another milestone on the journey towards a "Circular Economy".
Why is this important?
A quick search of the term highlights a "Circular Economy" to be a condition or state where all of our goods, processes and services generate no waste and no pollution. An ideal state, yes, but a singularity on which to target all of our ambitions to save us and our kids from a world of ever-dwindling resources and life chances. Northern Commercial believes that all must play a part if we are to reach at least a reasonable threshold that can secure a sustainable future for future generations. It is our business interest to show your company the contribution you can make to a circular economy and to be recognised in your efforts. Not only this but we'll save you money too!
